Lecture with Irene Kukota. Oleg Prokofiev: The Rhythm of Silence
On 23 September, Arc Space London will host a lecture by Irina Kukota, a graduate of the University of Oxford and Sotheby’s Institute of Art, dedicated to Oleg Prokofiev (1928–1998) – a nonconformist artist and son of composer Sergei Prokofiev.
Oleg Prokofiev began his artistic practice in the Soviet Union in the 1950s, working outside the official framework of Socialist Realism. In 1971, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he continued to develop his distinctive language of abstraction, bringing together painting, drawing, sculpture, and poetry.
The lecture, The Rhythm of Silence, will explore Prokofiev’s work through several key concepts – rhythm, pause, and space. The discussion will focus on specific aspects of his practice, with particular attention to the American-Parisian period.
This period offers an opportunity to consider how Oleg Prokofiev developed his own artistic language at the intersection of different cultural and aesthetic traditions.
Nowadays, Oleg Prokofiev’s legacy includes artworks and archival materials held at Prokofiev Studio in London.
